TIANHU ISLAND

A quieter expression of scale

At Tianhu Island, 1,300 square metres are approached with restraint rather than spectacle. The residence builds its identity through muted tones, generous proportions and a material palette in which smoked white ash brings depth without overwhelming the architecture.

Designed by A Wei, the woodwork moves between large architectural surfaces and more intimate custom elements. Smoked ash introduces a dark, tactile grain, while softly painted finishes temper its presence and allow the rooms to shift naturally between openness and enclosure. TREGAZZE translates this language across the entire residence, using bespoke joinery to give rhythm and definition to a home of considerable scale.

Furniture selected by Stella of Abaoyuejia, including pieces from Poliform and Cassina, adds another layer to the composition. Rather than competing for attention, furniture, timber and architectural surfaces are allowed to coexist within the same restrained palette.

What emerges is a residence where luxury is expressed through space, material and control rather than ornament. The natural character of timber remains present, but refined; the scale is generous, but never imposing. Tianhu Island finds its character in this balance—a contemporary home shaped as much by what is held back as by what is introduced.

Short Version

Tianhu Island makes a case for restraint at scale. Across 1,300 m², smoked white ash, softly painted surfaces and bespoke woodwork by TREGAZZE form a measured architectural backdrop for pieces by Poliform and Cassina. The result is contemporary luxury at its quietest: generous, tactile and deliberately understated.
